Senior Lecturer in Paramedicine

The position

The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching into the Bachelor of Health Science / Master of Paramedic Practice program at the Bendigo campus. A high degree of interaction with other members of the La Trobe Rural Health School and with key personnel in Ambulance Victoria and other relevant health services will be required. The appointee will also be involved in curriculum development and will assist in coordination of the paramedic program. The position will have opportunities for research and scholarship related to paramedic practice.

In this role you will…

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders relevant to the new paramedic program including relationships at La Trobe's regional campuses.
  • Assist with the development of the new Bachelor of Health Sciences/Master of Paramedic Practice by working with key stakeholders to develop the curriculum.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to establish professional placements, and promote the course to prospective students and the broader community.
  • Contribute to the teaching of the Faculty of Health Sciences, particularly in the area of inter-professional workshops, discipline mentoring, and discipline specific content of the paramedic practice program.
  • Mark and assess student work.
  • Be actively engaged in professional activities related to paramedics.
  • Perform a broad range of administrative functions and attend all pertinent meetings.
  • Undertake and/or supervise research relevant to paramedic practice.
  • Undertake special projects or other duties within the designated function of the position, as requested by the Professor of Rural and Regional Paramedicine, in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Bendigo.

The candidate

To succeed, you will possess…

  • A tertiary qualification in the area of relevance to paramedic practice and completion of a higher degree.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience as a paramedic.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective teaching to paramedic students including ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning in a tertiary setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating teaching activities in a collegiate and cooperative manner with team members.
  • Experience in curriculum development in a medical, paramedical or other health setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the University, health sector and the community.
  • Well developed planning, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to design and implement tasks and projects in a timely fashion.
  • Willingness to travel to regional campuses when required.
